Fixing a Drainage Problem
In Saint David’s PA, we had another challenge: How to improve the drainage on the existing slope and add steps for access to the lower level.
The first thing to address here was the drainage. We used PVC and other underground piping to act as a conduit for the water. At the same time we used capstone slab steppers arranged along the slope for safe walking.
As the area was mostly in the shade and water drainage was primary, we opted for creating a ‘dry stream bed’ along both sides of the steps, using river rock over fabric punctuated with a variety of boulders for strength and beauty.
The water has a place to go and the step provide steady, safe access to the house and garden below.
