We were contacted by a client in Wayne, PA who had us create a sitting/sunning area on a slope that was overrun with pachysandra and old sheared shrubs.
To start, we removed the shrubs by the roots and areas of the pachysandra where the sitting area was going to be. We also made room for the new shrubs and trees.
Next, we had to level off an area for the sitting area. This was done by embedding large rocks in the downhill slops and leveling the area with crushed stone and screenings.
The hardscape was to be irregular flagstone which was laid atop the crushed stone and screening base. We installed two solid stone steps to lead onto the area from one end and a stepping stone path out the other end.
We used flowering dogwoods, rhododendron, and cherry laurel to complete the setting.
