For years, this Broomall client had been advised to put up a plain retaining wall on the steep slope in her yard where a failed wall was crumbling. However, she did not want to settle for a plain wall. She wanted it to look natural and evoke a grotto feel, similar to those seen in Ireland.
We brought in over 11 tons of boulders for retaining and terracing the slope in her backyard landscape. Then we added a natural slab stone pathway that allows the walker to safely move 15 feet down the hill. Below all of this we created an irregular flagstone sitting area with planting pockets surrounding it. To better accentuate the retaining wall’s “grotto feel” we added a pond with trickling waterfall. Now, our client has a secret getaway in her very own backyard.
